Here are some tips to prepare you to buy your first container.

Be prepared for the price: Many people start container building projects thinking it will be cheap. Not including the labor costs for building a complex, custom container, shipping containers alone cost tens of thousands of dollars. Container houses or tall houses can cost as much as traditional houses. Think about your budget before you start shopping for container homes.

Contact the city planning office: While traditional homes have zoning laws and building codes, your local government may not have regulations for container homes and container office. Contact your city planning office and ask about nontraditional housing regulations. Find out if you need to make special considerations when designing your nursery.

Draw carefully in natural light: It is not possible for metal containers to receive natural light. When designing your floor plan, consider adding glass doors or skylights to make your interior feel light and open. If space is limited, consider purchasing a large cabins, which is taller than a traditional shipping container.

Check the box before purchasing: Like any big purchase, it's important to see your basket at home before you buy. Look for ribbing, exterior rust, and leaks that can be expensive to fix during construction.

Keep boundaries: Shipping container frames are made of heavy metal for shipping and therefore lack the seating areas needed for traditional seating. Holes in doors, windows and snow on the roof can damage the quality of your site office. Consider system limitations before making a purchase.
